IAW were appointed to undertake temporary works design on this extensive refurbishment scheme involving conversion of an existing 4 storeys office building to a new 8 unit residential apartments block. The existing building comprises RC structural frame with brickwork masonry on the external envelope, and hollow core clay pot flooring. The scope involved removal of existing concrete shear walls and both external flank walls, and replacing with new steelwork. Our competent chartered engineers produced a challenging and efficient temporary works design to enable the demolition contractor carefully demolish the structure in sequence for the principal contractor to install the permanent works steelwork, and ensuring stability of the structure was not compromised, and the needling props were designed in such a way that they did not punch through the hollow sections of the slab.
