IAW were appointed to undertake full structural design on this complex refurbishment scheme. The building is listed and was previously used as a local community centre. The proposed scheme involved conversion to mosque, comprising a new mezzanine floor used as prayer hall and downstairs communal hall. The scope further involved replacement of old timber roof truss structure with new timber structure. Some of the existing truss members were retained and strengthened using new timber and steel plates members. New timber joint connections were designed. A robust demolition sequence was discussed with the contractor to ensure stability and integrity was not compromised. All existing exterior foundations were underpinned.
